We've published our 2023 Our Planet Report

Find out about the progress we've made in the last 12 months across our environmental agenda in our new 2023 Our Planet Report.

We’ve published our 2023 Our Planet report, and our second under our responsible business brand, For Good, reporting strong progress across our environmental agenda.

As a business feeding millions of people every week, we recognise our footprint stretches across the food supply chain, and from the outset, our focus has been on accurately measuring this impact and pursuing a comprehensive science based approach to make actual reductions. Developing and refining robust data, means we can actively manage and mitigate their impact.

This is our fourth year of reporting a full footprint, and we continue to track ahead of trajectory on our 2030 science based reduction targets we established in 2021. Since our 2019 baseline they have reduced Scope 1 and 2 emissions by 23%, and Scope 3 by 24%.

Within the report you can read more about the progress that has been made, including:
•    Outperforming 2030 Science Based Target schedule
•    Significant reductions in Energy and Water consumption.
•    Plastics reduction of 40% since 2019
•    Completing farm carbon footprints for 60% of our chicken farming base
•    Year on year reductions in use of Soya in feed

Andrew Brodie, People & Sustainability Director at Avara, said “we remain ahead of our 2030 science based target by focusing on reductions in emissions and  energy use, together with packaging innovation. We are also at the forefront of developing higher quality data at a product level, and have established an improved 2022 farm carbon footprint, as part of our ongoing commitment to decarbonise and hit our 2040 Net Zero commitment across our Scope 3 emissions”.

CEO, Andy Dawkins, commented “Despite a year of challenging business conditions, we have continued to take positive steps forward across our environmental agenda, and it’s encouraging to see the progress we’ve made, and our position at the forefront of the sector in carbon foot-printing and GHG reduction".
